Will vs Trust: Key Differences

Both wills and trusts are useful estate planning tools, but they serve different purposes and operate in different ways.

A will records how assets should be distributed after death. It can appoint executors, name beneficiaries, and clarify family intent in a legally recognised format.

A trust can hold and manage assets for beneficiaries under defined rules. Trust structures are often used for minor children, dependents, intergenerational wealth planning, and controlled distribution timelines.

For many families, the right answer is not will or trust in isolation. The stronger plan is usually a coordinated structure where documents, nominations, ownership records, and family objectives all point in the same direction.
